Pokemon Go gets an AR boost on Android with ARCore support
2018-10-12T10:37:14Z - Jon Porter / The Verge
Pokemon Go is billed as an augmented reality experience even though the AR view is the first thing most people turn off when they start playing the game. Nevertheless, the game’s developer Niantic is improving this aspect of the game on Android by adding support for ARCore, Google’s augmented reality SDK. It’s a similar update to what we’ve already seen on iOS, which was updated to support ARKit late last year. Android users will need a phone compatible with ARCore in order to use the new “AR+” mode. Despite ostensibly peaking when it was first launched in 2016, Pokemon Go has seen continuous updates released in the two years since.
